Mel Warstler and his band SILVERWING
When Mel had enough song ideas, he set out to make another CD. We headed to the garage with the trusty recorder and laid down tracks.
He directed everything: the drums, the rhythm, the guitar leads, everything!
He was truly a "creative."
BUT he also opened the door for myself and George to write songs and this is George's contribution.
Her song about spotting a handsome man on the street and enjoying her daydreams about him.
Please listen and share.
Mel and I attended a song writers workshop in Reno years ago. A lovely lady from Yerington brought in a poem that she had written which was inspired by a true story of a father leaving on a military tour of duty. He wanted to stay connected to his son and came up with this special idea.
She was looking for a person to put it to music.
In the meantime, Mel had created this arpeggio guitar piece, but we could not come up with lyrics, so he just repeated it over and over, hoping he wouldn't forget it.
So at that workshop, he took Marilyn's poem home and played it to his song, it fit perfectly. No words were changed and every note was perfect.
It was meant to be.
Please listen and share.
I grew up swimming in the Atlantic Ocean at Breezy Point, New York, such great memories.
Then spent the next few years swimming in the Gulf of Mexico at St Pete Beach, FL.
Ah, life was grand and it inspired this song.

We know what it's like to get away with something. Maybe, sneak in past curfew, have a shot of whiskey when the parents are gone ,
lie about where you are, what you're doing
and, especially, who you're with!
But most of us grow up and straighten up
before it gets more serious.
Not the unlucky young man in our song.

Mel and I wrote this song many years ago and decided to include it on the County Line CD.
The words are true. We crossed paths several times in our small town and I'm sure the sun was shining on me.
Later, I asked our mutual friend Lauren to drop my name in a conversation to see what his reaction would be, just get an idea if he was interested in me.
She took it a step further than I expected, she called Mel and said, "My friend Mary has a crush on you and if you break her heart , I'll kill ya."
Subtle, very subtle. But it worked.
Before I actually met Mel Warstler, I would come to Silverwing gigs and hang out with my friend Lauren whose hubby was the drummer. It never occurred to me that something else might happen, like a real romance!!! So when Mel would talk to me, I didn't understand why. I wondered 'Why is this man always chatting with me and being so polite?' But the lightbulb finally went on and I started to notice that he didn't just talk about himself, he asked me questions about my kids, my job, my likes and dislikes. He wanted to know who I was and what interested me! Here is our song about how Mel won my heart over 25 years ago. #romance #songwriters #happymarriage

Honestly, this is just a cute song about a father and son and the mystery of the cowboy way.
Mel spoke with great fondness of his childhood on the Dement Ranch near Myrtle Point, Oregon.
He'd pretend to be sick, so he could stay home from school, then suddenly recover, so he could help his dad work on the ranch. He got paid for his hard work with a calf.
Stay till the end for a great picture of our little cowboy.

Years ago, Mel and I were at Fat Jack's having our favorite 2 for Tuesday cheeseburgers when we saw this sign on the backbar that said
"Hands Off the Barmaid."
I think the lightbulbs went off over our head at the same time, we turned to each other and said "We need to write that song!" We ran home and it just came together perfectly! It's been a favorite on the dancefloor for years! Connie and Gail even created a line dance for this song, which is such a compliment. So, I hope you enjoy it.
For Mel's parent's anniversary, he wrote this song about their love and devotion through 60 years of marriage. It's a rare thing these days, a marriage that lasts past the 7 years itch, or past the honeymoon in some cases!
But they were an inspiration to everyone.
RIP Carl and Lila.

This song had great meaning for Mel Warstler.
He and family worked hard for every dime they earned, every meal they ate and the security of the roof over their head.
Mel worked construction his entire life and we are proud when we drive by the homes and businesses
that he worked on with great effort.
